What is Unconscious Bias?
Some Psychologists and others believe that our unconscious biases are simply our natural people preferences. Many say that we are hardwired to prefer people who look like us, sound like us and share our interests. In fact, we can rapidly sort people into groups and categories! This preference sorting by categories can bypass our normal, rational and logical thinking and lead to poor decision making about any number of things...such as decisions about hiring, providing care, providing feedback and coaching, welcoming new comers to our team, etc. |
